Bowling,
known here as “boliche” (say ‘Boe-Leech-Aye’)
is not a big Mexican pastime, but Puerto Vallarta DOES have
a beautiful modern Brunswick bowling alley, the "Bowl-o-Rama".
It’s open from 10am to late at
night, and they have all the things you’d expect to
find in a bowling alley ‘up north’…20
well-oiled lanes, funny shoes for rent, banged-up ‘alley
balls’, automatic scoring, a snack bar, pool table, air-hockey,
and cocktails.
The alleys are in the Club Collage
complex just south of the main entrance to Marina Vallarta.
Entrance is in the back, across from the Telmex (telephone
company) drive-through payment office. Just tell your taxi
or bus driver you want to go to Collage, and they’ll
get you there.
Rates vary by time of day, but
are roughly $3 dollars per line. If you find yourself looking
for something to do on a Friday at noon or 1:00pm, a contingent
of local gringos shows up at these times each week to hurl
some balls down the lanes in a very non-competitive session
that, based on the number of beers consumed, we suspect is
more about having an excuse to start the weekend early than
about bowling. Visitors and new-comers are always welcome,
and you’ll likely pick up some insider tips on good
places to go in Puerto Vallarta.
