|NEWS: TAX-FREE HAVEN:
Mexico's congress passed a tourism ministry-backed law introducing
tax-free shopping for international tourists.
Spearheaded by Mexico's Secretary of Tourism
Rodolfo Elizondo Torres, the law -- which passed with little
opposition -- is designed to increase competition in tourism
and foster private investments. It grants foreign visitors
full refunds of the retail tax on purchases of at least 1,200
pesos (about $110), provided receipts are presented upon departure
to airport or seaport customs officials.
Alert! ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea, are required to present a valid passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security.
